Rachael Vegas is the newly appointed Chief Commercial Officer at Walgreens. Her responsibilities include merchandising, marketing, digital and loyalty and she is tasked with evolving and growing the front of store business. Prior to joining Walgreens, Rachael served as the Executive Vice President, Chief Merchandising Officer at BJ’s Wholesale Club since 2021. In her role, she was responsible for the strategic leadership of the company’s merchandising, services and sourcing functions to deliver value and drive future growth. She led key initiatives to create a best-in-class, transformative assortment of products that aligned with BJ’s strategic priorities, exceeded members’ expectations and drove membership growth and retention. She is an experienced merchant who brings more than 25 years of experience across grocery, sundries and general merchandise.

Previously, Rachael was at H-E-B where she served as SVP, E-commerce Merchandising, Retail Media and Financial Services and as SVP, General Merchandise before that. At H-E-B, she was responsible for the company’s $3 billion ecommerce business as well as its in-store financial services and payments division and its retail media initiative. Prior to that, she was the Chief Merchant at Brandless, a pure play ecommerce retailer selling food, household, home, baby and pet products. She also spent 13 years with Target in a variety of leadership roles including VP, GMM, Center Store Grocery, Divisional Sourcing Manager for Apparel & Accessories and Director of Merchandise Planning for Toys & Sporting Goods. Earlier in her career, she held merchandising and operational roles at Delhaize Group and Hannaford Supermarkets.
